Webb: Music

Aboriginal

(Webb)
I'm aboriginal, I'm an original
Been here a long time
I'm aboriginal, I'm an original
This whole place is mine
You'll owe me till the end of time

Come feed my casino
It's big and loud
Buy my cheap cancer sticks
blow your own cloud

I like the tasty cake
That you made
With my ingredients
time I got paid

I'm aboriginal, I'm an original
Been here a long time
I'm aboriginal, I'm an original
This whole place is mine
You'll owe me till the end of time
Get your ass, off the grass, that you mow, cause it's mine for all time.

The way you treated grandpa
Was really your shame
Go back to England
file a land claim

The paper we signed
was useless and thin
outwit and outlast
we're gonna win

I'm aboriginal, I'm an original
Been here a long time
I'm aboriginal, I'm an original
This whole place is mine
You'll owe me till the end of time
Get your ass, off the grass, that you mow, cause it's mine for all time.

words and music by Dave Webb

Have you ever heard of a song being written while someone was asleep? Well this is one of them. It was about seven am on a weekend and I was still sleeping when the first line of the chorus streamed through my mind. I knew if I didn’t get it written down right away I’d never remember it once I woke up so I forced myself out of my sleepy stupor and grabbed my blackberry. Once I got “I’m aboriginal I’m an original” typed the second line came to me. In the next ten minutes in bed I wrote the entire lyric with the exception of the third verse (I added that later when I was writing the music).
