Webb: Bio

Mike Simpson - Vocals/Bass

Born in Canada. Currently living in Toronto, Canada. Mike's vocal style is a blend of attitudes and influences. Mike lists as his vocal influnces singers such as James Hetfield, Phil Anselmo, Tom Waits, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Clarence Carter, Marvin Gaye, Mavis Staples and Lynn Collins.
As Mike says "I try to bridge the gap- I usually sing rough regardless ... I try not to insert too much testosterone or rock type attitude in soul or funk parts, and try not to put too many inflections or grunts or whatever in the metal stuff."
"The unifying thread between the two styles is, basically, a real kind of badass attitude that is not present in the majority of other styles of music."

Dave Webb - guitar

Born in Canada. Currently living just West of Toronto, Canada. In Dave's words "I don't make music because I want to, I make music because I have to. I'm completely absorbed in exploring guitar and exploring musical places I haven't been. There is no feeling like a great guitar plugged into a great amp pushing great tone." Dave believes that electric guitar with electric bass, drums and vocal are the ultimate rock vehicle. Dave uses Lado Custom guitars exclusively.

Jeremy Kleynhans - drums

a brief history of webb "the band"

Long ago (aug/87) after a conversation with the members of Guns N’ Roses backstage at Toronto’s CNE Grandstand guitarist Dave Webb decides to take a break from the music business. GN'R was opening for The Cult. It was the week Appetite for Destruction was released in Canada. Dave recalls speaking about family, the cover artwork for Appetite for Destruction, and other stuff. Truth be told Dave was there for the free beer... well not exactly free since GN'R paid).

Next century (Sept./04) while having some thoughts about returning to music the death of a family member shocks Dave back to reality. He picks up his guitar.

October 2004 - Dave starts writing the album that would become PowerPlay.

October 2005 - the songs for PowerPlay are completed.

Tim Morton and Tommy Jam join the project on drums and bass.

The quest for a singer begins. Auditions happen. Many singers are told they “aren’t right for the project”. The quest continues.

The long search for a great singer ends as Mike Simpson signs on as vocalist for the album.

The album completed Tom and Tim can't continue with the project due to unspecified complications.

Mike Simpson takes on dual duties as lead vocalist and bass player.

The search for the right drummer takes several months and ends with Jeremy Kleynhans.
